STEER prices remained the same topping at $865a head while heifer values soared $50 a head higher at Wangaratta's annual Blue Ribbon weaner sales on Friday.
A broad base of local and interstate competition buoyed the sale with the recent adjustment in overall cattle market values opening the market to greater participation.

The best priced Hereford steers, weighing 343kg, were sold by GF & DM Comerford, Mansfield at $775 while the Angus steer yarding saw the best sold by AG & JE Simpson of Docker these making $835.
Overall steers weighing 360kg and heavier made $740 to $865 and averaged 210-c/kg lwt.
Steers 300-360kg made $670 to $780 a head and averaged 222c while light steers made $600- $660.
Heifers sales were mostly made between $600- $750 with a couple of isolated sales made up to $800. These realized 195- 218c/kg lwt and averaged 212c.
