Store cattle prices lose momentum in Ballarat

22/09/2008 1:09:00 PM
An 1800 head sale of store cattle at Ballarat, Vic, on Friday did not carry the same strong momentum of recent prime markets.

Whilst unchanged to the rates of a month ago, demand for grown steers was again centred on the 180-200c/kg (live) price bracket.

Those weighing 300-400kgs made $610 to $755, while pens of lighter weights fetched 210-230c/kg, with very few lots sold for less than $500/head.

The unjoined heifer market picked up its previous losses, however, trading $30-$40 dearer than the August sale as most fetched 170-190c/kg.

Most better grown lines made $430 to $635/head, topping at $700.
