A SMALLER offering of 974 cattle were yarded on Thursday at the first Pakenham store sale for the year.
Landmark agent Garry Knox said there were several lines of exceptionally well breed cattle which sold to strong competition, equal to pre-Christmas rates.
“A large percentage of the yarding were however, mixed in quality and breeding and therefore prices generally showed a cheaper trend,” Mr Knox said.
Paul and Verna Waylen, Westley, Philip Island sold 14 Angus steers, 12 months, 334 kilograms to $775.
In total they sold 63 steers from $600-$775 and 22 heifers from $560-$660.
The Waylen’s have been selling at the Pakenham store sale since its opening.
Property manager Russel Cleeland said their season has been a strong one but things are starting to dry off and as such they decided this was an appropriate time to sell.
