A 30% lift in supply had no negative effect on the demand at Pakenham on Tuesday, with all of the regular buyers showing interest and overall prices were
2c to 6c/kg higher.
There was a much larger percentage of beef cows penned with most being in very good condition.
There were 23 older manufacturing steers penned and heavy bullocks in fair to good 2 and 3 score condition which made 162c to 164c/kg.
The 328 beef cows in 4, 5 and 6 score condition all sold well where 3, 4 and 5 scores made from 137c to 158c with one European bred cow of excellent quality making 164.2c/kg.
Prices for 6 score cows varied from 130c to 142c, while heavier 2 scores made between 129c and 149c/kg.
Strong restocker competition for some of the lean cows saw some make to 153c, however trade purchases were from 95c to 135c/kg. The carcass weight price average was estimated to be 286c/kg.
A large penning of 44 bulls also sold to the dearer trends. Better quality heavy bulls made between 158c and 176c/kg.
