The Glen Angus and Murray Grey bulls both to $8000

6/10/2008 10:06:00 AM
ANGUS and Murray Grey bulls each topped at $8000 at the 38th annual on-property sale for Walwa-based stud, The Glen.

Michael and Marion Blake, Winslade, Weston Creek, ACT, bought the top priced Angus bull; a 14-month-old son of Lawsons New Design 1407 below breed average for birth weight and in the top 20 per cent of the breed for growth (+93 for 600 days) and top 5pc for the long fed index ($101).

Alan and Rosie Zerbst, Burnett Dows Pastoral Co, Brigalow, Queensland, secured the top priced Murray Grey bull; a spring drop Willalooka Werribee W207 son out of a New Design cow and, as such, 25 per cent Angus blood.

The heaviest of the spring-drop bulls - 690 kilograms at 400 days - the bull is below average for birth weight and in the top 10pc for both long fed and supermarket indexes on Murray Grey Group Breedplan.

The Murray Grey offering (and the entire The Glen herd) is duel recorded with the Murray Grey Society and the Angus Society and performance recorded on Angus Multibreed Group Breedplan.

In all, 43 bulls averaged $3151 in an 80 per cent clearance (including those sold immediately post auction) for principals, Michael and Joy Gadd.
