TOP female lines made more than anticipated at the Leongatha heifer sale on Monday this week where heifers and calves, joined heifers and unjoined heifers were on offer.
Alex Scott & Staff selling agent Simon Henderson said the quality cattle sold beyond his expectations.
“Good quality cattle made the price but secondary lines were around $50 under expectation.
“Buyers were more selected in their replacements. “
Mr Henderson said the rain up North should help the Victorian market.
“There are people sitting on their bullocks while the weather is still good waiting for better prices,” he said.
Heifers and calves topped at $1900 and sold to strong competition.
Tom McConnell, Strzelecki topped this section with his pen of 11 Angus-Friesian cross heifers with Limousin calves.
Mr McConnell was wrapped with the price after experiencing an exceptionally good season and said this was one of five times he had topped the cow and calf market.

Robert Bruce, Leongatha North sold 79 joined heifers to Limousin bulls and made about $50 a head more than last year.
They sold from $1730-$1270.
Mr Bruce said he achieved the high prices through purchased better quality cattle at previous Leongatha store sales.
“I bought strong lines from South Gippsland and the Western District,” he said.
“The joined heifers made fairly similar money to what I was expecting. “
Mr Bruce runs 100 cows and calves on about 340 acres but had to put these particular joined heifers on adjustment due to the extremely wet weather experienced last year.
“They were on adjustment for between three and five months,” he said.
“The paddocks are in good shape now and the heifers obviously benefited from the adjustment as reflected in the prices.”
