Top result for Debarry's final sale

23/09/2008 10:13:00 AM
THE final Debarry Poll Hereford bull sale cleared all 45 bulls to a top price of $16,000 twice.

The sale, which following on from the stud’s dispersal last October, averaged $5333.

The first bull to sell for the top price was Debarry MR, a 25-month-old son of Ebbx Calgary bred from a daughter of Bowen Vincent.

Debarry MR weighed 1094 kilograms and had an eye muscle area (EMA) of 137 square centimetres and estimated breeding value (EBV) for this trait of +3.1.

Buyers were Jim and Poss Hann and family, Courallie J stud, Narrabri, NSW.

Mr Hann said the bull appealed for its great length, tremendous performance and huge eye muscle area.

“He has a true stud sire’s outlook about him and is a very mobile, free moving bull,” he said.

He said he was looking to breed some polled bulls to meet a demand from several of his customers.

The second bull to sell for the top price was Debarry Hendrix B93, a 25-month-old son of Ebbx Calgary, again bred from a daughter of Bowen Vincent.

Hendrix weighed 1142kg, had an EMA of 137cm2, is +3.6 for EMA and +0.4 for intra-muscular fat (IMF).

The buyer was Andrew Mackay, Merawah Poll Hereford stud, Boggabilla, NSW, who appreciated the growth and weight for age of the well muscled bull and its tremendous performance and carcase characteristics.

Pat Pearce, Yaven Vale Herefords, Adelong, NSW, snapped up a two-year-old son of Bowen Vincent for $10,000, saying its size, scale and tremendous growth and carcase EBVs made it exceptional value.

Mr Pearce also paid $8000 for the last bull to be offered by the Debarry stud, a 12-month-old son of Bowen Vincent, Debarry Rocky C303.

This year the Yaven Vale stud will have calved down 1100 registered breeders. At its on-property sale next year half of the offering will be polled genetics.

Don Flynn, Bowalla Poll Herefords, Hinton in the Lower Hunter Valley of NSW picked up a rising two-year-old son of Wiranya Francini with a bid of $9000 and then bid $4000 for a 24-month-old bull sired by Kidman Forward.
