Weaner steers av 193c/kg at Naracoorte

01 Dec, 2008 09:41 AM
A welcomed inquiry from northern NSW, plus a solid order for the Channel Country of SA, saw the opening sales of this year's steer weaners average 193c/kg liveweight Thursday at Naracoorte, SA.

Offering 3472 head of weaners ahead of normal, steer sales mostly made $570 to $650/head, topping at $730.

Heifer sales mainly fetched prices of $360 to $470, to trade around the 160c/kg (live) level.

In fact, such was the demand for the younger-drop lighter weight steers that very few sales on the day made less than $500 a head, while in the heifer section trade buyers were the most active.
