$130 top for crossbred Edenhope ewes

14 Nov, 2008 01:40 PM
There was solid demand for spring-shorn crossbreed ewe hoggets at yesterday's annual West Wimmera breeders sale at Edenhope, Vic.

In a total offering of almost 10,000 main lines, one year-olds made $110 to $115, with one outstandingly well-grown pen of 1.5-year-olds topping the sale at $130.

A feature of this year's offering was an excellent display of breeders' '08-drop ewe lambs, spring-shorn that saw the joinable lines sold mostly between $80-$100, topping at $110.

Many of these lots attracted repeat buyer inquiry, while the second draft pens were "buyable", struggling for attention at prices between $60 and $75.

Speculator interest was rekindled for third-draft pens, with many of these smaller late-drop lambs sold from $56- $67.
