High prices tempt Wangaratta sheep thieves

25 Feb, 2010 04:00 AM
THE high price of store livestock has proved to tempting for thieves in the Wangaratta region, where a local farmer has reported 100 first-cross ewe lambs stolen over the past two weeks.

Senior detective Mark Hussey, Wangaratta, said the thefts occurred between January 29 and February 11 and were mainly April 2009-drop and October-shorn lambs.

He said they were taken from properties around Carboor-Docker Road, Bobinawarrah and were valued around the $12,000 mark.
