Merino ewes, aged 4.5 years, made to $66 a head and younger 1.5-year-olds to $65, at Friday's Monaro Merino Association sale at Cooma, NSW.
Selling to a restricted field of local buyers, bidding was slow-going and largely below expectations for the younger ewes.
However, competition quickly intensified when the pens of classed breeders were offered as cross-breeders became more involved.
Likewise, lines of 1.5- to 3.5-year-old wethers met good inquiry when a strong southern order from Kilmore in Victoria crossed paths with local grazers and NSW processor Goulburn Meats.
