Restockers bat up a storm at Wycheproof

15 Dec, 2008 05:30 PM
RESTOCKERS stepped up to the batting plate at Wycheproof store sheep sale on Friday and knocked any potential trade buyers out of the field, paying from $10 a head dearer across the board in a very strong result at the combined agents sale.

Mick Crapper, Rodwells, Bendigo, said that the buying force reflected the poor end to the cropping season and that sheep were still regarded as a steady income for the farm when cropping is “very up and down”.

The sale opened on a pen of Perryman Brothers, Boort, Border Leicester-Merino (BLM) ewe lambs, October shorn, sold at $113 to Grant Weaver.

Mark Perryman said the result was $13 in front of last year’s sale, but still within expectations.

Yarraberb Estate opened the Merino bidding and topped this portion of the sale with a $98 result for 327 ewes, May-June 07-drop, Collinsville blood and September shorn; their 225 seconds fetched $74.

The large yarding of Merino wethers sold to a top of $77 for one-and-a-half-year-olds offered by G and V Baldwin, Gre Gre.
