Riverina ewes reach $68 at Hay

11/09/2008 7:17:00 PM
Riverina vendors yesterday offloaded about 11,000 sheep at Hay, NSW, where prices for Merino ewes reached $68.

The sale offered buyers the perfect opportunity to buy large even-lines of well-bred Merinos that were sold mainly due to extremely dry seasonal conditions.

Most of the sheep were bought by restockers but a couple of meat buyers were present, adding some competition on heavier ewes and wether lambs.

Wethers topped at $25 and despite the tough conditions vendors and livestock agents were pleased with the overall results.

* A full sale report will appear in The Land, NSW, September 18 edition.
