Sheep show: Langdene snares Merino supreme

19 Jul, 2009 07:39 PM
Langdene has snared the supreme Merino crown at the Australian Sheep and Wool Show with a fine wool ram.

The ram – shown by the Cox family’s Dunedoo stud, NSW – got the nod for supreme ahead of the top ewe shown by the Walton family’s Wurrook stud, Rokewood.

A son of Nerstane 43, the Langdene ram had runs on the board before he hit Bendigo having won grand champion fine wool ram at the Sydney Royal Show in April.

Wurrook led the charge for Victoria, accounting for three of the 12 grand champions and the only stud to produce more than one grand champion in the tightly contested Merino classes.

The depth of its show team became clear when it snared the prestigious Lionel Weatherly trophy for the best group of five, following on from its win in the Victorian pairs.
