Buyers from three states competed keenly on Thursday at a clean-up yarding of 10,000 crossbred and Merino store sheep at the fourth and final store sheep sale for the spring at Swan Hill, Vic.
With interest in the prime lambs boiling furiously, lines of mixed-sex first and second cross lambs were pursued like hot cakes, making from $40-$80, with northwest stubble graziers providing the keenest demand.
Lines of merino wether lambs were scarce and made to $46 for a unshorn pen, while a plain line up of '07-drop young ewes met steady inquiry selling mostly from $48-$69.
Breeding ewes however again attracted keen interest with some sales up to $10 dearer.
Prices for these mostly ranged from $40-$52 as many graziers sought these lower value breeders as a short-term play in the breeder market.
