A TOTAL of 7726 second-cross lambs sold under the hammer to $120 at the 10th annual Tamar Valley sale in Tasmania last week.
Three different vendors β Greenhythe Pastoral, Weymouth Pastoral and Effingham β participated in the annual event, which achieved an overall average of $81 a head.
Greenhythe Pastoral, Hillwood, received the top price of $120, paid by Wallabadah, Wood-bourn, Cressy.
Greenhythe sold 1554 White Suffolk and Suffolk-composite lambs at an average of $87.
Stewart Archer, Weymouth Pastoral, Pipers River, offloaded 2811 White Suffolk-Border Leicester-Merinos to $96, av $86.
Elders Bendigo agent Greg Harrington provided mainland support at Weymouth and paid the top money on the day.
Winston Archer, Effingham, Low Head, saw his run of 1617 Poll Dorset-Romney lambs top at $119, av $85.
JBS Australia shelled out the money for the top Effingham pen.
Winston also sold 797 Southdown-BLMs to $88, av $58, as well as 957 Romney-BLMs to $94, av $69.
Both Archers said they were happy with the result, despite prices being $25 softer than last year.
βThe market was more realistic for store lambs, given current conditions,β Winston said.
The Archer families also donated the proceeds of two pens of lambs to the St Michaels Association, a local Launceston charity that provides high-quality support and education for people with intellectual disabilities.
The first pen of 10 Suffolk-cross lambs made $121, while the second pen of 10 made $120.
Both pens were purchased by JBS Australia.
