Clipping hooves at Chatsworth Park

9/10/2008 2:23:00 PM
IT is not difficult to imagine the sound of clipping hooves from champion thoroughbreds along the manicured laneways of Chatsworth Park.

Originally owned by James Redfearn, the trainer and owner of Melbourne Cup greats Tarcoola and Malvolio, this historic landmark property in the Nagambie ranges offers potential buyers a slice of Victorian heritage.

Built in 1932, the English Tudor style homestead went on to set the style for Melbourne’s elite Toorak Village.

Constructed over two levels everything is on a grand scale; with oak doors, open fireplaces and leadlight windows scattered throughout.

Among the rooms are a formal dining room, main suite with walk-in dressing room, bathroom and sunroom, den and butler’s pantry.

Befitting of the homestead, a lush English style garden rich with cypress hedges, a swimming pool, tennis court and manicured lawns wraps around the house making for an ideal entertaining or relaxing setting.

Since 1948 Chatsworth Park has maintained a strong connection with the Victorian racing community through its present owners the Bayles family, but has also become a name that is resonant with extremely high standards of cattle and sheep production.

Spread over 946 hectares of prime versatile family land with complete frontage to the Goulburn River and Hughes Creek, Chatsworth Park could also well be the perfect farm.

And just 10 kilometres south of Nagambie and under one and half hours from Melbourne, there is little to miss out on.

With rich Tablik loam soils and ample water from a 447 mega litre water entitlement and seven large dams, Chatsworth Park is also highly suited to viticulture, Lucerne production or cropping.

Other improvements include a historic three stand shearing shed, workshop, two stables, large modern steel sheep yards, cattle yards, and two cottages.

Chatsworth Park is being offered as a whole or in three lots; The Homestead (320 ha), Riverbend (510 ha) and Ewings (116ha).

Sale by tender, closing November 7.
