At the western entrance of the Bass Strait, the island has a reputation as an exporter of quality meat and dairy products.

Winton, Reekara, milks up to 1100 cows that currently have three calvings: 450 in spring, 300 in summer and 350 in winter.

Cows are bought in from one of the 50 paddocks on property and milked in the centrally located 44-cow rotary dairy with automatic feed and cup removers.

The dairy also has a 25,500 litre Barry Brown milk silo and a covered artificial insemination (AI) stock handling centre with Arrow Quip crush and Wopa foot trimming crush.

A 200-head calf rearing complex with eco shelter and eight auto feeder mixers, as well as a batch feeding setup for 300 more calves is also on property.

The large dairy property is a major supplier to National Foods’ King Island Dairy.

All irrigation equipment, dairy plant, grain feeding system and fixed calf rearing plant are included in the sale, while other plant, equipment and the livestock are available at valuation.

Perennial pastures of ryegrasses and clover and fertilisers applied regularly make the property suitable for cattle grazing and about 450 beef-cross cattle are also being run.

A variation of soils can be found on the property, including Pegarah fine sandy loams, and 282 hectares is under irrigation, the remainder being sheltered grazing land.

Accommodation is plentiful on-farm, with a four-bedroom home, a self-contained flat and two-bedroom staff accommodation.

The property also has a machinery shed, super shed, workshop and stockyard, all in good condition.

The owner currently has a water license that enables the property to obtain irrigation water from a registered

supply.
